NOW
teaching the second brain to talk back, and training a bigger net for the chess engine.

ABOUT ME
hi, i'm pikammmmm. i am me, which is all the introduction i've ever managed. i build desktop software: shells, docks and voice tools in Rust and Tauri, written straight against the OS instead of through a browser. no Electron when i can help it.
every one of them started as a thing i wanted and finished as a thing i wanted slightly differently: dictation that runs offline, a taskbar that isn't the stock one, bots that do the boring parts, a desktop rebuilt the way i want it. most of it is private, because i wrote it for me and not for a repo. i daily-drive Arch (KDE Plasma on Wayland) and still build for Windows when it earns it.
open to collaboration. see contact.
PROJECTS
what i'm working on now. most of it is private — i build these for myself, not for a repo.
| name | what it is | status |
second brainpython · obsidian · local llm private |
my own knowledge base. a capture app takes notes by voice or text and files them, everything is searchable by meaning instead of keywords, and a local model stitches facts together overnight. it also has a hands-free mode where i just talk to it and it answers out loud. |
in daily use |
brain for androidkotlin private |
the phone half of the second brain. speak or share something into it, check it before it sends, browse the note graph, tick off to-dos. holding the power button starts a voice conversation with the machine at home. |

murmurrust · tauri · python open source · ★ 1 |
self-hosted voice dictation. hold a key, talk, and clean punctuated text lands wherever the cursor is. fully offline, no cloud. i use it every day. |
in daily use |
pika-enginerust · nnue · uci private |
a chess engine written from scratch. its own neural evaluation trained on self-play, a modern search, and every change tested against the old one before it merges. around 3170 elo — it draws stockfish at the strongest setting it will play me at. |

redwatchrust · gtk · qml · kde private |
my desktop, rebuilt in blood red: the whole plasma theme down to the panel and lock screen, a 3d ring alt-tab switcher, and a glitchy 24h clock that lives on the wallpaper behind every window. |
active |
fleetdeck + session-bridgerust · tauri · mcp private |
i often run several ai coding sessions at once, so they needed somewhere to meet: a shared board where they claim tasks, post findings and stay off each other's files, plus a desktop dashboard to watch and steer them. |

gmail-discord-botpython · discord · gmail api open source · ★ 2 |
new mail arrives in discord drawn as a picture of the email, with a reply button that sends a real threaded answer. it works, so i left it alone. |
running |
small toolspython · rust · bash private |
things that took an afternoon and never needed touching again: a terminal client for my media library, a terminal that plays any file dropped on it, a wayland autoclicker, a patched terminal with close buttons on its tabs. |

OPEN SOURCE
fixes i've landed in other people's projects:
| pull request | what | status |
| ruff #27781 | fix a panic in bugbear B031 on match subjects | merged |
| horizon #6060 | upgrade older chunk, entity and POI save records as they're read | merged |
| highlight.js #4512 | haml: implicit div lines starting with .class or #id | merged |
| highlight.js #4457 | yaml: empty lines no longer end block scalars | merged |
| cpython #154919 | importlib.resources: legacy ResourceReader loaders | in review |
| cpython #154872 | csv.Sniffer: test minimum delimiter consistency | in review |
PRIVACY
visibility is a trap. i'd rather host it than be the product — this is what that looks like in practice.
| thing | what i do | status |
| own vpn | my own server, not a subscription. the pc refuses to send anything outside the tunnel, and the phone picks a disguised transport by itself on networks that block the normal one. | in place |
| search | a metasearch engine running on my own machine that asks the real engines through tor, a fresh circuit each time, and fails closed if tor is down. no engine ever sees my address. | in place |
| dns | encrypted dns to independent resolvers, with the ad and telemetry blocking done server-side so the phone gets it too. | in place |
| the machine | daily apps sandboxed, telemetry off, firewall default-deny, randomized hardware addresses per network, no hostname handed to the router. | in place |
| new apps | if i don't fully trust an app, i watch every packet it sends and where it goes before i actually start using it. | habit |
| mail & chat | domain mail forwards to an encrypted mailbox instead of gmail, signal for conversations, and the rest of my accounts are moving off google a few at a time. | in progress |
| phone | next one is a pixel with a de-googled android on it. | planned |
OLD STUFF
finished, replaced, or left behind when i wiped windows for arch. nothing here is coming back, and that's fine.
| discounts | grocery discounts across regions, scraped twice a day and published as a page per region, with an android app. still runs on its own, but i'm done building it. | finished |
| custom-windows-taskbar ★ 10 | a windows taskbar replacement in rust: glass dock, system hud, 3d alt-tab switcher. my most-starred repo, and dead the day i wiped windows. | retired |
| pikammmmm browser | a browser where an ai answered instead of a search engine. web, image and agent modes in one address bar. | retired |
| endgame coach | a chess app that played you and only stepped in with advice when you were losing. | retired |
| discord profile widget | rotating profile cards — contribution heatmap, now playing, a contact code — pushed into a discord profile. | retired |
| voice-ptt | push-to-talk dictation with local speech recognition. murmur replaced it. | retired |
| reverse engineering | pulling apart scripts hidden behind virtual-machine protections to recover what they actually do. private research, no repo. | retired |
| small windows tools | a metadata viewer (exiftool with a face on it), a daily metadata scrubber, and a mac randomizer that ran on every boot. | retired |
